GENERAL NEWS Of 39 catastrophes in tbe United States, during the past year, 805 persons have been killed and 283 wouDded; of the tormer, the Lady Elgin disaster swaHowed up 400. The tornadoes in Iowa, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, and the shipwrecks on the northern lakes, are not included in tbe above; in the latter, 560 lives were lost A _Hkw¥oaK dry-goods jobber is reported to hare '' stuck " a retail customer recently by an old dodge of sharp practice.
