It was set for the purposo of clearing the laml, but spread In the dry vegetable mould and peat like surface of the swamps beyond human control. Hon. 11. II. Smalley, Al nnson Barney, Samuel Dullard nnd Hon. A. 0. Aldls were the principal sufferers, the ilatnago being confined to tho loss of fences and valuable timber. Buildings were more than onco In Imminent danger, but fortunately none were destroyed, Some ten ncres of the timbered land belonging to Mr. Barney were burned over and tho trees nearly all consumed. The fire undermined them, so that when a wind arose they fell in piles and burned like a slash.
