Ihe flailg JjweaL GOINO HOME WITH TUB GIRLS. —"Then comes, lit last, the breaking up. The girls don their hood*, nnd put on their shawls, and look so saucy, and mischievous, and unimpressible, and independent, as if they didn't wish anybody to go borne with thent. Then comes the pinch, and the boy that has the, most pluck makes up to the prettiest girl, his heart in his throat, and his tongue clinging to the roof of his mouth, and crooking out his elbow, stammers out the words, '-Shall I see you home?' .She touches her fingers to his arm, and they waik home a foot apart, feelitigas awkward as two goslings. As soon as she is safe within her own door, he starts home, and really thinks'ho has been, and gone, and done it. Sleep comes to him at Inst, with dreams ofCaroline, and calico, and he wakes in the morning and finds the door of life open to him, and the pigs squealing for breakfast." #.-s*• Mrs. Jemima Jipson never could go to bed without first looking underneath to see if somebod...

Ihe fails Appeal. MARYSVILLE, MONDAY MORNING, FEB. 13. ATLAXTXC PAPERS. — We are indebted to Joe. Ball, for the first delivery of Eastern papers, yesterday. Wagner conferred limilar favors upon us. "Thank yer." FALSE ALARM.— There was a false alarm last night, about nine o'clock. Nobody seems to know what caused it. Our gallant fireman turned out with their store clothes and "biled" shirts on. Nobody nor nothing hurt much. DRILL.— To-night is the season for the regular drill of the Marysville Rifles. The members of that patriotic band, not needing any of our promptings, will take occasion to be there or thereabouts, without our urging—that is to say, if they don't all go to see the Wizard in thin, his last night. Attention, company ! HELD TO BAlL.— Kramer, the man who lately killed Lowe, in Sutter County, was examined on Friday, before Justice Doty, at Knights landing, and held to appear before the District Court, to answer a charge of manslaughter. His bail was fixed at 82,000, whi...

[From our own Correspondent.] Sacramento Correspondence. [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 13 February 1860

[From our own Correspondent.] Sacramento Correspondence. SACRAMENTO, Feb 11, 18G0. EDITOR APPEAL :_.The Pacific Railroaders have, for the most part, returned to their constituents, to inform them how they voted upon the fifteen million proposition. An antifuated old gentleman, Col. Crockett, by name, who resides at San Francisco, led the conservative element, i. e. the old fogies. He tried hard to annihilate all that the Convention had ! done, by way of asking for State aid. Gen. McDougal is not, however, an easy man to put down in a public body, lie saw his proposition rescinded, but had the satisfaction of pushing through the i very same one. couched in language so j plain as to admit of no misconstruction. He had much to contend with, although j all the delegates professed great friend-! ship to the project, for a railroad. The result of the labors of the Convention is, that the Legislature is recommended to propose an amendment to the Constitution of the State, that will, if mad...

[For the Appeal.] Why did the people of California In 1849 enclose "Colorado" within i the boundarle» of their State ! EDITOR APPEAL : The California statutes of 1859, page 310, show that the ■legislature, where the Lecomptonians were in the majority, fixed the northern boundaries of the Territory of Colorado jfforroed of six counties and a part of a Seventh ) on the renowned Missouri line 30'. This act, which Mr. Latham, in « letter to President Buchanan, (Sacramento Union, Jan. 13,) has declared to be completely legal, though he has no doubt that it is contrary to the will and ■wishes of the people in Californiaat large, and only requires that Congress now organize said portion of the State as national territory—will, if such organization follows, open the doors of Colorado !to slavery and its curse; the formidable struggle for aDd against slavery, with its frauds and terrors, and devastation, and arsons, and bloodsheds, and murders, and >an immeasurable train of the mo...

[For tin? App' Jil.j Mountain Correnpondcnce. YOUNG'S HILL, Feb. 11, 1860. EDITOR APPEAL :—Winter seems to have hunted his home in the dusky North; yet he gives us an occasional taste of bitter cold, to remind us thut cheerful fires and overcoats should not be dispensed with until Spring has really donned her garb and given us an edition of beauty. For the last two weeks we have had beautiful days—warm, delicious and balmy—just the weather that makes a man have a "huge disgust" for all kinds of manual labor, and a proper appreciation of the climate of our own California. The fun-loving portion of our inhabitants are improving, most pleasantly, the passing time with '-socials.,' balls and surprise parties; which last have been, and are now, quite a feature in the social life of the people in this end of Yuba. Just imagine a crowd (say fifteen or twenty) of our female citizens, flashing in all the radient beauty of bright eyes and blushing cheeks, with merry laugh ringing out upon the ...
