rfe 4 7 WOODCREEK THURSDAY, DECEMBER II, 1975 The Eagie Rock Ranch has been given new life and has again become the center of a recreation area. Eagle Rock Ranch was a dude ranch establish- ed by O.B. Smith, now a famous Austin Volks- wagon dealer, in the early 40's. The then 300 acre resort was located in the Texas Hill County near the resort town of Wimberly. After going by such names as "Holiday Text Si Photos by Tom Shaplev Hills" and "Corral of the Longhorns", the resort acreage was pur- chased in 1971 by five men; Lawrence Smith, H.A. Sanson. Bob Gwynn and Jack Dean who have cultivated, developed, nursed and expanded it into the multi-faceted. 2600 acre Woodcreek Resort. Woodcreek is not a dude ranch but the same atmosphere of taste, beauty and understate- ment has been inherited and passed on to this generation in the tree covered hills, slow moving stream, rustic town- houses and the Wood- creek Lodge. "I think (hat we are really unique in the market of resort and recreation...

PAGE 5 THURSDAY, DECEMBER li, 1575 Residence And Resort "The possible impact the development might have on the environment has always been our prime consideration," Sanson said. "In some cases we have even improved the natural environment, along the creek, for example. We have put in dams and cleaned and cleared the banks." Everything at Wood- creek has the feeling that it was build around nature and with the landscape as its founda- tion. "We have even left some trees undisturbed, right in the middle of a road." said Sanson. For the weekender there is the 21 room air conditioned lodge or one of 44 town houses complete with stone fire- places and color television. The town- houses sleep up to twelve persons and many families have found it fun and economical to share one for a weekend, a week or a month. Everything at Wood- creek has the family in mind; the setting the activities, the pace of life and the cost which is suited to the middle income young family interested in enjv/ing t...
