THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. DECEMBER tO. f 909. District Court Doings. Congress Opened Tuesday. THE BISHOP STAYED. The General Electric Co. vs. ' the Canyon City Ice & Light Co. had on the last days of the Dis- trict Court a number of judg- ments entered against the cor- poration approximating over $18000. The company has'been in a receiver's hands about a year and at one time it was thought that the present stock- holders would re-organize and take in some of the heaviest creditors but it seems that they could not all come to an agree- ment so let the receiver Frank A. White of Amarillo continue n the receivership. The Dis- trict court entered an order for the sale of the property on the tirst Tuesday in March 1910. The court also appointed re- ceiver White as special commis- sioner to conduct the sale. Jit might be stated too that there has been tiled against the com- pany by Chas. Burrow a $10000 damage suit. State of Texas vs. Chas. Agnes. The court gave sixty days to prepare b...

THE RANDALL COUNTY NEWS DECEMBER 17. 190 Attendance at the Various Normals. In several of the Texas papers there have been articles saying that the increased demands for teachers in the public and rural schools of Texas has filled the present state normals to their ! fullest capacity. A good many people thought last summer that ! since the appropriation for; scholarships given by the legis- lators the governor and other officials had been excluded the attendance at the various normals would be the lowest of any pre- vious year. Hut this didnot. seem to haw any effect for the. enrollment at the North Texas State Normal located at Denton has reached t;;. the largest number that has ever been en- rolled in any of the Texas State Normals. The other normals have grown in attendance but not so rapidly as this particular j one. THE -RANDALL COUNTY NEWS. Vol. XIII. Canyon Randall County Texas Friday December 24 1909. No. 39 Naval Stores Important in Industrial History. "The naval stores industry is one of the oldest industries in the United States deriving its name from the fact that in the early days pitch from pine trees was commonly used to make wooden vessels water-tight" says II. S. Kellogg of the United States Forest Service. "The term has persisted till this day though the products long ago found other and more important uses. "The turpentining of pine tim- ber began in New England with the 'pitch' or yellow pine of that region but it was in North Car- olina thjrolthe first extensive de- velopment of the naval stores in- dustry occurred.
