It íp very popular now, having been introduced into the drama Arrah-na-Pogue. ^ Ob! Paddy, dear, and did you hear the news that's going round? The sliauirook is forbid by law to grow on Irish ground. No more St. Patrick's day we'll keep, the color can't be soon, For there's a bloody law against the wearing of the gretn. I met with Nappcr Tandy, and he took me by the hand, And he said, •'How's poor ould Ireland, and how does-she stand?" She's the most distressful country that ever yon have seen, They're hanging men and women there for "wear- ing of the yreen." II. Then since the color w« must wear is England cruel red, Sure Ireland'.'! sons will ne'er forget tho blood thai they have shed.
