I The annual smoke night social in con nection with the Lilydale Branch of the r Railways Union was held at the Lily dale Hotel on Wednesday evening, when a splendid programme of songs, recita tions, and speeches was gone through. Mr E. Smith, who presided, was sup L' ported on his right by Mr Frank Anstey - M.H.R., and a large number of mem bers and visitors was present. In acknowledging the toast of "Par liament " which was proposed by Mr T. W. Simpson, Mr Anstey said that the empire was composed of two parties One party was fighting to increase its wealth by sweating the working man and. depriving him of his just rights. The other party was fighting for a more equitable recognition of their labor.
