PILFERING OF FRUIT. [Newspaper Article] — Murray Pioneer and Australian River Record — 5 September 1913

PILFERING: <JF FRUIT. There have been disquieting reports of pilfering ofiruit ia the settlement lately, and one day last -week a grower noticed ' a citrus case villi his brand on board the coacb leaving Denmark. The case was ' lull of oracges wrapped in paper which bore the grower'a braud, and mvesiiga .tion brought to light, a mau who admu ted to the .theft ot the -case and paper "bat cjaimen that the oranges had been lawfully par chased elsewhere. Tiie grower decided not to pcosscute, but dis« . missed the man. Few growers would . begrudge «n orange or two picked from the tree to be eaten, on the spot, but it is JBaid that certain persons habitually go far beyond this, and in some orchards the loss of fruit in the coarse of a year , mounts up to ecores of cases. This prac tice of trait thieving has got to be •topped.'
