FENCING WHEAT FARMS To Suit Mixed Farming. [Newspaper Article] — Stawell News and Pleasant Creek Chronicle — 5 February 1914

FENCING WHEAT FARMS To Suit Mixed Farming'. A contributor to the South Aus tralian "Journal of Agriculture" writes on fencing for wheat farms where sheep are also kept "It is well to bear in uiind that a good fence really cos's little more than a bad one. Some fences ona sees are veritable traps for slack, and many valuable animals are ruinod through becoming entangled in barb wire loosely hung on the posts. Then, again, bad fences aro often th» cause of ill-feeling among neighbors. Where sheep are kept it is advisable to put in live plain wires with one baib (12 gauge) on top. No S black iron wire will be found tho best, as it is not so apt to break as galvanised or stoel wire. The strainers should not be more than 7 chains apart, as where there is a long strain it is (iifli ult to keep the wires tight. One wooden post should be put in lit inter-'.ils of a chain, and liveT iron posts between the wooden. The former should be oft -iin loiifj, and put in the ground 20m„ leaving podta ...
