Victorious Behrend Hoopsters Even Season Mark; McKeesport and New Kensington Fall Before Cubs by Tom Harvey Sports Reporter The Behrend Campus roundbailers reached the .500 mark (5-5) by defeating New Kensingtor and McKeesport in Commonwealth Campus strife last week. On WednesdayJanuary 12, the Cubs trekked " to New Kensington and came home with twenty seconds remaining ii regulation time when Ike Burnett took charge. He scored twice on twistingdriving layups to send the Cubs into overtime and then led them in the extra period with sixpoints. The Cubs employed a zone press the entire contest and held a slim 42-40 halftime lead. The Cubs trailed by four (78-74) with 20 seconds left when Burnett's heroics put the Cubs into overtime and gave them their win on the visitor s boards. Coach Roger Sweeting singled out the " performance of the bench as one of the two keys to Behrend's victory. Tom Kozeksy scored 15 points and hauled down eight rebounds in a relief role. Athlete Of The Week by Tom Harvey Sports Reporter Co-captain Ike Burnettthe former Meadville High flash, has been selected this week's "Athlete of the Week" for his* inspiring play . against New Kensington and McKeesport. Ike tickled the twine for 47 points on 19. field goals and nine free throws. He added twelve rebounds and four assists to make this week's work complete. Ike was ineligible for the first portion of the season and now that he's returned to the line-up it has become truly evident how much he was missed. As one of the team leaders and as a returning letterman, Ike combines determination and experience to give a stabilizing effect upon the rest of the squad. Buses Available For Fayette Game Behrend students will have an opportunity to ride down with the basketball team this weekend. The Cubs have two away games against Dubois and Fayette. Coach Sweeting has 12-15 seats available on both buses, and booster club members can ride down free of charge. Other students must pay $1. Behrend plays Dubois on Friday, and the bus will leave at 4 p.m. Saturday, the Cubs travel to Fayette at 1:30 p.m. Students who are interested should report to Erie Hall approximately one halfhour before the bus leaves to make reservations. Coach Sweeting remarked, "this is a good opportunity to show your support. Try and make it either Friday or Saturday afternoon. Support the Cubs."

Kochel Recommends Three For Six-Man Task Force by Carolyn Beck Staff Reporter Irvin H. Kochel, Director of Behrend Campus, has announced his recommendation of three members of the faculty of Behrend to the sixman task force charged with planning the academic future of Behrend. The nominees' final appointment, subject to the approval of President John W. Oswald, are Dr. David P. Spaulding, Dr. Ed Masteller, and Mr. Philip Iobst. The task force is composed of six people three from University Park and three from Behrend. It has been formed at the recommendations of President Oswald to provide the "sound academic planning and realistic reassessment of programs and priorities" which will change Behrend from its two-year status to a full four year college. Kochel, who will be working closely with the task force, would like to see it set the direction of the campus for both the immediate and long range future. Students Attitudes Expressed In Commonwealth Campus Survey University Park (APS)—Thirteen Student Government Association (SGA) Presidents at the Commonwealth Campuses feel that students at their campuses consider themselves "second-class" University students, while thirteen acknowledged student participation in course evaluation and eleven cited various degrees of student contribution in campus decision-making, according to" University Council member John Casciotti. Casciotti, Commonwealth Campus representative to the University Council and President's Student Advisory Board, said he initiated the survey, which he sent to 19 campuses, "in an effort to gain..knowledge about a few issues and feelings at the Commonwealth Campuses." .. Faculty Senate Discusses Problems of Registration by Carol Hughes Staff Report The problems of preregistration and registration were discussed in . the Behrend Campus Faculty Senate Thursday during the first session for the new year. The problems concerning the shortage of textbooks were also discussed.. Concerning registration and preregistration, Dr. Ward Knockemus made four observations: 1) Courses and sections should not be closed until they are all filled and all cards are gone. 2) Only advisors should, be allowed- to sign _^Number 2 cards. 3) Students should not be allowed to trade pink cards. 4) Students should be able to take their courses in sequence. Faculty Reviews Report by Kathy Baker Staff Reporter President Oswald charged Richard E. Grubb with the special assignment of conducting a study of the University's Commonwealth Campuses for the purpose of developing recommendations for new operating policies and procedures for the campuses. The purpose of the report is to report the major findings of the interviews held with members of the University Community and to set forth proposals for the organization and operation of the Commonwealth Campuses. _.
