CHAPTER II(Continued.) My wife and I, a man and a woman, have often agreed to wonder how a per aon could be at the same time so hand 'ame and so repulsive as Northmour. He had the appearance of a finished entleman his face bore every mark f intelligence and courage, but you on ly had to iook at him, even in his most amiable moment, to sae that he had the temper of a slave captain. I never knew a character that was 'both explosive and revengeful to the same degree he combined the vivacity -of the South with the sustained and deadly hatreds of the North and both traits were plainly written on his face, which was a sort of danger signal. In -person he was tall, strong and active hts hair and complexion very dark his features handsomely designed, but spoiled by a menacing expression. At that moment he was somewhat pador than by nature he wore a heavy trown and his lips worked, and he looked sharply round as he walked.like a. wan boaleged with apprehensions. And yet I thought he had a lo...

active Page How Successful Farmers Operate Thli Department of tb I urn. A Few Hint* as to the Care of Live Stock and Foultrr. Cream Separators on the Farm. On invitation of Secretary F. D. Co Durn, of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, an address was delivered at the Board's recent annual meeting by Mr. Geo. Morgan, a long-time, ob servant dairy and creamery man, on the subject of using cream separators on the farm. Mr. Morgan is entirely convinced of the desirability of the milk-producer having his separating done at home rather than at the fac tory or station, And Borne of his ob servations are as follows: The value of the farm separator to the private dairyman has' already passed the experimental stage. The evidence of our experimental stations and the testimony of all who have made a careful, intelligent comparison between the gravity system and the modern cream separator is practically a unit in favor of the latter for the private dairyman. The question as to its advantages...

The people of Beltrami are jubilantthere is joy in every heart, every shoulder is thrown backa shout of victory is heard on every breeze! And why not? For the first time a Beltrami citizen can say that he is as good as the citizen of any other county that Beltrami is no longer a pauper bowing to the state legis lature, nor a slave to the wheel of the lumbermen's chariot. Last Friday the supreme court by Judge Collins handed down a decision declaring the act of 1897, which limited the tax levy in the counties of Beltrami and Cass, to be unconstitutional.
