The warm heart, ardent fliller atriotism, and daring bravery of Stephen have won lor him in the late en gagement, the highest renown. When our shuttered regiment was momentarily repulsed, and thrown into some disorder, he left his horse, and, sword in hand, ral lied and cheered his men on to the attack again. Wo havo believed from the first, he wvmld make a brave and skillful officer, and his conduct in the late action has fully redeemed the confidence offabmost san guine friends. MAJOR DIKE. This gallant officer has won the plaudits of the brave men he hud the honor to lead, in part, to battle, on the fatal 21st of July. It was hia big heart, and genuine love of the stars and stripes that prompted him to take op arms. It was no dazzle of military glory that led him to the tented field. And thi...
