An official dispatch from General Miles to General Terry, dated at Camp on Eagle Creek, Montana, Oct.5, brings the gratifying intelligence of the surren der of Joseph and his band, after a se vere engagement, and being kept under fire for three days. The following additional particu lars regarding Chief Joseph's surren der were received from Fort Benton on the 10th: Since the first bout of Gen. Miles with Joseph's band, the troops have been holding the hostiles in a nar row ravine, and have picked them off from rifle-pits, losing only four men themselves. Joseph raised the white flag four times, offering to surrender if he might keep his guns. Miles demand ed an unconditional surrender and on "- the last day Joseph raised his flag again, advanced in front of his lines, handed his gun to Miles and shook hands with him.
