STATE JOURNAL. ALEXANDRIA: THURSDAY EVENING, MAY 25, 1865. w. J, COWING, Editor. The manufacturing power of Richmond is not understood by capitalists North, or else they would erowd the city with enterprises that Would make Richmond second to no city on the continent Rich mond has a water power exceeding any town in the South. The .Tames River, Dock, Basin and Canal afford water power sufficient to turn a thousand mills. The general apathy into which trade has been suffered to fail, consequent upon the war, and other circumstances has delayed the improvement oi this immense water power, but we are satisfied that a little capital, judiciously laid out, would return a per centage ten fold upon the original out lay. Rich ■ moiid Whig. We do not desire to dispute, the declaration of the Whig simply from a love of disputation, because we rather like the manner in which it is conducted, and anything which it may urge for the improvement of the Capital of the State is only so much in favor...

STATE JOURNAL, ALEXANDRIA: SATURDAY EVENING, MAY 27, 1865, ’w. dT, COWING, iidltor. What Will be Done AAMth Davis? This question has now assumed an importance it did not possess when the hoary old traitor was running around loose and in danger of making a successful escape from the country he had done his best to ruin. The newspaper sensation-mongers are busy discussing and deciding, as their various inclinations suggest, the important question. They have as many versions of the intention of the Government in the matter as there are days in she month. One has positive assurance that the great Rebel will be tried for Treason; another hashed a prominent official by the button, and is able to State, ,: by authority,” that he will be tried for Assassination: another is equally certain that the authorities are in a muddle and don’t know what to do with him; while another favors us with the pleasing information that his trial before a Jury of his Peers at Alexandria is definitely set down...
