Viles afiked for a reduction from 5s to 4s on ;his shop in Main-street, used in connection with his saddlery business.— Reduction granted. Mr. Viles also ap pealed against the assessment of 9s , per week on his corner block, which lie want ed reducing to 7s, also against the assess ment of 1 is per week on his residence: in Alfred-street, which lie asked to be reduc ed to ios.—In the first 'case the-assess ment was upheld, in the latter the reduc tion was allowed. George Horton appealed as; follows:— A rednction in the assessment to ios per week on his shop and dwelling in Main street; from 5s to 3s on house in Church street; a reduction to ios per week on ia-roomed house in main-street.—In. the first two. cases a reduction was granted; in the third a reduction to 15s was al lowed. The assessment on an improved allotment of land in Ooakland-street was confirmed....

Peculiar Situation. "Query" writes as follows At a Board meeting composed of three members (one of whom was chairman), A proposed a motion. B, who was not in accord with it, moved an amendment. Neither were seponded,,„but the chairman put the amendment first, one vote being given in is"favor. The motion was then put, re ceiving one vote, which made honors even, whereupon the chairman used his casting vote in favor ;of the amendment, "which he declared carried. Was there actually a motion, or an amendment, since neither was seconded, and were not the whole proceedings illegal ?
