DISTRICT NEWS. ('From Our Own Corbicspondknts.] Tuesday. On Wednesday night last Mr. Hayes, MX. A. for tbe district,- addressed the electors to the number of about- fifty, in the School of Arts. Mr. G.J. Johnston, J.P., being in thcchiiir. Mr. Hayes explained the Consti tution Bill at length, and concluded by saying that he intended to vote in favor of it. A hearty vote of thanks to tho member was carried on the motion of the chairman. the meeting, proposed by Mr. Stewart and seconded by Mr. G. W. Harberger, 'That Federation on tho lines of the present Con stitution Bill is not desirable to the people of New South Wales.' Only one gentleman besides the proposer and seconder holding up his hand in favor of it. I am informed that the establishment of a pound is authorised here, and Mr. Robert Armour is to be poundkeeper. and also that the name of the village has boon officially altered from Coreen to Daysdale. The water in our dam is now diminishing to such an extent that we will bo without water in about a month's time if a change, does not set in soon. People will then deplore the waste of good water which is allowed to ge on for useless purposes. Federation is now the talk of Urana, as of other places. On Wednesday at the Reading Room of the School of Arts Mr. Sloane, a well-known resident of the district, explained the meaning of several difficult problems in the Federal Constitution Act in a very clear and lucid manner, and advised all his hearers if they had the welfare of Australia at heart to vote for the Bill as laid before them ; ' some of the clauses he thought might with safety be amended, but that was a matter for after consideration. SHEEP WASH DAM 99-G767'. W. H. Brownless :? The probable eContents of this dam is about fiOOO jiirda. It backs water for about foil or four miles, ft does not back the water out of the creek. It has not inflicted any injury on any person, Tho by-wash is 4 feet 8 inches above the natural bed of tho creek from the bar at back of: dam. It is S chains long and 99 feet wide It is a natural by-wash. The water rejoins the creek about 3 chains below the dam. The by-wash is on the north side of tho creek. The by-wash is about 8 feet 8 inches below the bank. There have been no com plaints about this dam. The dam is not prcjudical. To Mr. Jameson : I did not take the depth at the by-wash to the bed of the creek at the dam. I am responsible to a certain extent for the application.
