Port of Geraldton Substantial Trade Increases SHIPPING STATISTICS Statistics relating to the import and export trade of Geraldton during the year ended on December 31st last dis close that iu nearly every 'instance there has been substantial increases in the cargoes handled on the local water front. Cargoes showing the greatest increase were made tip of food commo dities in the form of wheat, sheep and tomatoes, the latter being sent exclu sively to the Singapore market, whilst wheat, in most cases, was shipped to the United Kingdom and India. The main ' import item, petroleum oils, decreased slightly from 23,593 tons in 194C to 23,043 tons in 1947. However, In both years these commodities have made up more than half the total imports, which were 40,820 tons In 1947 and 3S,051 tons in 1946. The quantity of phosphate rock unloaded last year almost doubled that of 194fi, the import e.f this commodity at Geraldton rising from 0,689 tons in 1946 to 13,339 tons in 1947. Owing to the late...
