FAIRFIELD RIDING. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough, Eltham and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 16 December 1916
S 'FAIRFIELD RIDING. Sir,-According to y6our report of the Fairfield Progress Association there are still some mnembers who like to have a tilt at Cr. Stone for riot attending the' meetings. Is it a sine qua non that a councillor should be a member of the association, failing which he will become the butt of carping critics, whose capacit is on a par with their liberal-mindedness. i hold nio brief for Cr. Stone, but from.:" what residents tell me he has proved himself a very thorough representative of the council. Maybe Fairfield has caught the complaining germ re the councillors not seeking information from progress associations from Heidelberg. There is another matter which I crave space to refer to: the discussion with reference to Itushalll-street and the ru mors about tihe non-attendance of Cr. Coate, and the statement that it was not designed to do Cr. May any good. I don't think for a umomnent that either of the councillors cares much about the opinions of some of the twopenn...

. SOLDIERS' MEDALLIONS. SSir,--In your last issue, covering re portof the Heidelberg Progress Associa tion meeting, it is stated that MIr. On behalf of the Heidelberg District Volunteers' Farewell Social Committee, I desire to reply that as far as possible when names have been forwarded this has been done. Several appeals have been made by the committee through thcse columns to "Parents, -relatives, friends and secretaries of.district organi sations to forward as early as possible names of district- volunteers who have gone to the front or who are at present in camp, so that they may participate in the distribution of the special medallioans struck for all locall soldiers." On look ing through our file of replites:to the above appeal. I Ilhave failed to: flind any record of unaites forwarded by i1r. 1i.luck up to the prescilt.
