A copy of tho specification with plan of tanks attached thereto may he had by any landholder on application to tho Birchip office:— Before any work is done in excavating tank, .the selected sito should by well tested to seo that no heavy body of stone or inferior materia1, not watertight, is underneath. This can easily be ascer tained by sinking two or m>ro smill shafts, or by boring, or by pirt sinking and part boring. Wherovor possible the site for tho tank, relative to tho »upply channel, should be chosen so that water can bo stored above ground. For this purpose the material from the excavation should he placed con tinuously around the tank. Where tho tank sito is on sloping ground a good result'in this way is easily secured. COURSING. A' meeting of members of the Birchip Coursing Club will be held at the Birchip Hotel on Saturday night next (March 28) at 8 p.m. It is requested that members should make a point of attending. At the annual meeting of tho National Coursing Club of Victoria on'-Tnesday last, a motion was carried :—" That with tho riew of completely abolishing "the pernicious practice of doping dogs, a sub committee of three bo appointed to make full inquiries as to the/methods of clubs where doping was strictly prohibited, and submit at the following meeting of the N.C.C. a rule which, in thoir opinion, would effectually stamp out tho eril." It was also resolved :—" That no club Bhould be permitted to run improperly schooled hares under a penalty to £5 for the first offence, the N.C.C. to fix the penalty should the offence be repeated, and no club shall run hares more than t:rico in the one day."

SCHOOL CHILDREN'S HEALTH MEDICAL OFFICER'S REPORT The annual report, for 1912, of the Chief Medical Ofllcer of the Board of. Education, contains (says "Public Opinion"), an exhaustive account of the measures which are being taken throughout the country to safeguard the health of school children. Alto gether 'here are 1111 medical officers in the school service in England and Wales, as compared with 943 in 1911; Si' are women and there are 742 nurses also engaged. The Chief Medical Officer, Sir George Newman, states that it is un fortunately true that uncleanllness still occupies a large share of the time, thought, and energy of the offi cers of the school medical service, though it is encouraging to note that throughout the country the returns show a decided and progressive im provement, and that the grosser forms of uncleanliness are now rare as com pared with the conditions that pre vailed when medical inspection was Instituted In 1908. •Many of the medical officers' re ports draw...
