Correspondence. [We do not hod ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents]. SHEEP DOG TRIALS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 16 October 1908

Correspondence. (We do not hod ourselves responsilile for the opinions expressed by our correspondents]. SHEEP DOG TRIALS. TO TilE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD. Dear Sir,-I notice by your account of the dog trial in the issue of the 18th ult. that several of the d(gs *' woolled " their sheep. A simple and effective cure that perhaps some of your readers interested in the matter may not have tried for dogs which habitually bite would, I think if tried, i, attended with success. Before giving the dog his orders, place a short-necked spur in his mouth (the rowel resting lightly on thie tongue) and fasten securely behind the ears. If the dog is an habitual biter he will, when ordered, immediately close in on the sheep and " wool " one. 'The shock will be sharp anid sudden and not likely to be forgotten. The principal merit attributable to the method is t hat the dog blames the sheep for it, and seldom requires the dose to be re peated. It is n:ldoubtedly severe--nu might say, cruel-but it nmu...

Smx,-Nothwithstanding the splendid food one of our local auctioneers has in his own paddocks, I observe that, in conformity with his system last year, he has made up his mind to prevent any working or poor man in the township from keeping a cow, inasmuch that he is not satisfied with run n:ng cows and horses, but must travel sheep (some 200 or about) within and very close to township boundary, besides keeping a mob of pigs within the boundary and which periodically have been loose. I think it is quite time this matter should be brought before the council and police, a result I tust this will lead to.-Yours, etc., A'PUOR MAN WITH A FAMILY.
