Photography. [Newspaper Article] — Table Talk — 23 October 1885

Photography. Tins photograpliio art lms roached tlio highost stato of poi'l'oction, micl moro than that, lias passed 16; and having passed that stage, it ooasos to bo porfect. Tho finishing'is oYoi'-finishcd, and tho rosult is, tlio likeness is polishod away. The, picturo of a rustic beauty with cherry-red cheeks and rodder hands, is tonod and sliadod in a vain oll'ovb to make the country girl appear like to a lady of refinement and culture. The result is porlinps a pretty picture, bat not a lilconess. Tho pnlo-faced, sickly-looking girl or youth, who earns a livelihood in the over-orowded workroom or factory, has her or his photograph executed with surroundings of graceful draperies and tropical' foliage, and the likeness itself is finisliod with a bloom that vies with the charming tints of a pink rose-bud-—a bloom that the ohcek of the original never know. Some people may say that there is no harm in being made to look boautiful; that is trno ; but it does not make one look boauti...

The eiFects on the digestion, of which so many people complain, is frequently due to the excessive use of tea and coffee. Many constitutions cannot stand this, oven when the tea and coffee is the very best which, in most casos it is not. A trial of FRY'S COCOA has proved inestimable to such people from its mild and nutritive qualities.—[Advt.]

A Glance at the New Fashions. [Newspaper Article] — Table Talk — 30 October 1885

A Glance at the New Fashions. By Lotjisb. Some of the most generally admired toilettes worn at the military ball on the 23rd instant were achieved by that clever " artiste," Madame Elise, and were really chef d'ceuvres of taste and elegance.. Especial pro minence must be given to a dross that might be aptly described as a dream of artistio grace and rich-toned coloring. This costume consisted of brocade and satin, the former of a richness of texture but rarely seen out here. The brocade, lavender-raised flowers on a cream ground, composed a plain skirt front, the rich effect of the magnificent material being heightened by the laok of folds or "drapery. Bound the bottom were folds of satin of four colors veiled with cream and edged with lnrgo ponrla unci Spfiniah lfioo. Random Jottings. [Newspaper Article] — Table Talk — 30 October 1885

Random Jottings. Transparency would certainly be the main object of those modistes who had the designing of the now summer millinery and parasols ; indeed, some of the parasols are so frail and of such light construction as to render the term " sunshade " a gross misnomer. " The square or handkorohiof parasol is decidedly tho most favored, and these are being shown in every possible novelty and design. I noticed a pretty sun shade of white satin, on oach square, embroidered jby hand, were Australian flowers, birds of iParadise, j or some other colonial device. The handle was of carved ivory. , \ . . j In gloves I see no remarkable change. The " Mous-' quetairo," in suede, and dressed kid, in all shades of tan and other colors, still hold their own. Some cream and light pink kid gloves, with hand-painted floral de signs look'very well. But the greatest novelty in this way are some really handsome gloves fer evening wear. The "glove is of kid to the wrist; laut from the wrist, almost ...
