THE LAND QUESTION AND TH LAND LEAGUE. [Newspaper Article] — Ovens and Murray Advertiser — 2 January 1857

THE LAND QUESTION AND TH LAND LEAGUE. THE Age of Tuesday Inst published n letter from n correspondent respecting a very gross net of spoliation at Mnllna-. nit, permitted or connived at by Cap tain Clarke, the Survcvor-Geiieral, by which from 15000 to 20000 acres of the very best land has been " demised " to Messrs Learmonth, the great squatters of that district. It is about as flagrant a case as has ever been made public, and as such mal-practiees will be as possible under the proposed, as they are under the existing land regulations, more strongly than ever demands the immediate establishment of a pub lic combination to resist the perpetua tion of the system. We have already received the names of two or three gen tlemen desirous of forming a local league, and hope without delay to re ceive the names of others in sufficient numbers, that initiatory 'steps may at once be taken for holding meetings throughout the Ovens.
