IV' . i CAPITAN NEWS. The first good rain, to cover an extensive area, fell over this sec tion Wednesday evening' about 6 o'clock. The rain was accom panied by a high wind. Double daily automobile service from Carrlzozo to Capitan was established this week by E. Darl ing, manager of the E. M. P. Auto Co. The Railroad Company have placed a rain gaguc in the yards near the place where the depot ought to be. The depot is a couple of miles up the road. Win. Ferguson and L. R. La may were in from their farms on the Mesa Wednesday. Condy Skinner and family were in town during the week, the first visit for several months. Fred Pfingston was in town from Angus during the week. Win. Rcily, Carrizozo'a post master, was renewing acquaint ance with his many friends in Capitan this week. A petition, signed by over 1200 qualified electors of Lincoln coun ty was presented to tltc board of county commissioners this week, asking that an election be called to submit to a vole of the people the proposition to move the coun ty scat from Lincoln toCarrizozo. Considerable feeling was mani fested in the matter by the citi zens of Carrizozo and Lincoln, both sides being represented by counsel. A petition signed by about 1200 legal voters requesting the board of county commissioners to call an election for the purpose of voting on the county scat removal question was presented to the board on Tuesday morning. Among those from Carrizozo who left for Lincoln Monday morning to attend the county commissioners' meeting we no ticcd 1). W. Glenn, Ira O. Wet more, W. C. McDonald, Win, F. A. Gierke, J. II. Canning. J no. A. Haley and Geo. L. Ulrick, all of whom arc interested in having the county seat moved lrom Lin coln to Hits point. Van Valkcnburg, one of the three men who broke jail at Lin coln some three mouths ago, and who was later arrested forlarccn- cy of a buggy and team in Chaves County, was sentenced to two years imprisonment at Koswcll last week. Ily reference to the county com missioners proceedings, wljich appear In this issue, it will be seen that a large portion oi the proceedings is taken up by county seat removal, by reason of the fact that the entire list of peti doners is made a part of the rec ord. The list contains about 1201) names, secured from every precinct in the county. What per cent of the 12U0 will be on hand election day can not be fore told, but it is not unreasonable to suppose that three-fourths ol the number will be at the polls on that day and cast their ballots for Carrizozo. NOTICE. A Petition having been pre sented t the Hoard of County Guiniiiissmnurs which is found to Inivc been signed by qualified i electors of Lincoln County, New Mexico, equal in number to at least one-half of the legal votes I cast at the last preceding general election in said county, asking for the removal of the county seat of said county to Carrizozo, in said county, and that question of such removal be submitted to a vote of the qualified electors of said coun ty. And the Hoard finds that the said town of Carrizozo is more than twenty miles from the pres ent county scat of said count'. The Hoard further finds that the original costs of construction of the Court House and Jail of said county was less than thirty thou sand dollars as shown by the re cords of the board of county com missioners of this county.
