A more popu lar, able and splendid appearing can didate never graced a ticket in the state of Washington. He bears a fine clear record as a citizen, lawyer and legislator from Lincoln county. His character is white as snow. Such sterling young men are bound to be pushed to the front where they right fully belong and where their service will be for the betterment of man kind. ...LOCAL TOPICS James A. Turner, who died Wednes day night at the county hospital from typhoid fever, was buried Thursday. Turner was 50 years of age, and leaves a wife and three childron in straiten ed circumstances. They will return to her parents in the Palouse. Aside from poverty, the sorrow of the family is the greater from the fact that an indictment for attempt to commit murder was hanging over the husband and father. The deceased was arrest ed hi July tor ainiost fatally wound ing George Allard alias"Blacky," with a knife. He was bound over to the Superior court, and in default of bail was remanded to jail awaiting the September session. Liter he became sick and when, court convened was too weak to appear for trial. The case was continued by Judge Neal and the prisoner removed to the hospital. J. Edward Preucel M. D., of Palouse City, arrived last Thursday and has located here. The doctor states that he is pleased with the town and country and that Mrs. Preucel will join him...

Berry of Fletcher, who owns and controls 8920 acres of land in Adams county is in the city today and is arrargiug his affairs prepara tory to leaving lor Honolulu about Nov. 15th where he will spend the winter on a pleasure trip. He had nearly forty thousand bushels of grain this year. Of the large tract of land operated by him 6360 acres are in full state of cultivation and he has just finished seeding his fall crop. Mr. Berry has been one of the hardwork ing and systematic farmers of this county for ten or fifteen years and liis labor has been amply rewarded as he has hard cash enough this full to leave him free from debt and all this magnificent land lying in a choice locality in such shape as to make him clear profit hereafter.
