COLUMBUS DAY. Tho Public School Colobraten the 400th Anniversary of tho Dis covery of America. The public school of Jefferson Cily celebrated the 100th anniversary of tho discovery of America by Christo pher Columbus in a manner credit able to tho school and to the city. The success of the entertainment re flects great credit upon Prof. White, who had complete charge of it, ably assisted by the various teachers of the school. Although the weather was horrible, raining and muddy, the audience was quite large, and the fund realiz ed will materially aid the purposes for which tho entertainment was given, that is to say, the school library. The programme was quite interest ing and all of those who participated acquitcd themselves very creditably. The entertainment was under tho auspices of the Longfellow Literary society. It was opened by an instrumental solo by Miss Kdua Gordon, follow ing tills Mr. Charles Dix read the President's proclamation, making tho 21st of October, 1802, the -1...

Price Park. The City Council at its regular meeting, by proper ordinance, ac cepted tbo Price Park near the water tower in the western part of the city. The conilitior.s under which this beautiful piece of property has been secured to tho city are exceedingly f avorablo to the peoplo and tho Coun cil desctves commendation for the excellent bargain made in the matter. The location is beyond question the most beautiful that could have been selected for park purposes and it is a step in the right direction. While tho people, some of thorn, may think that parks are useless adjuncts to a city they will soon find as tho city expands, that parks arc a necessity and this view was taken by the City Council. We believe the city got an excellent bargain and that the work of the Council will be generally ap proved.
