MORNING LEADER. PUBLISHED EV COWLES & CO. SATURDAY MORNINO, TiOV. 13, 1S58. The Triumph of Mr. Douglas. From the exultation of the Douglas Demo crats one would suppose that they consider the contert of 1860 settled, and that the "Little Giant" has only to march to Washington and wait for Mr. Buchanan to lay down the sceptre. The gunpowder ovations, however, have a good deal of the prematureness of the Atlantic Ca ble explosions, and the fact that Mr. Douglas has after a truly gigantic effort obtained a bare majority of the Legislature of a State that has heretofore given lnm overwhelming endorse ments, is blazoned into an importance far be yond its real import. To Mr. Douglas peroi allv, it is a proud triumph, for it was a hard f iuht contest. But how the Democracy as a party are to be benefited by it, is far from be ing clear. It has healed no divisions, but has rather widened those already existing between the Sectional and the National Democracy. With tlie apportionment decid...

MORNING LEADER. PUBLISHED BY E. COWLES & CO. NO. 144 AMERICA BUILDINGS, BCPEEIOI 8T. WEDNESDAY MOKSISG, NOT. 17, 1S58. Indian Wars with the United States. The New York Herald of Monday devotes a whole page to accounts of the Indian Wars in Oregon, Washington, New Mexice and Texas, and the official report, by General Scott, of all the Indian battles for the past year, together ?ith the names of the office engaged therein. It appears that from May, 1857, to October of the present year, our troops have had no less than eighteen deceive conflict with the Indians in Florida, New Mexico, Texas, Oregon and Washington Territories, which must have cost the country an immense amount of treasure, and quite a number of valuable officers and men. The Florida war cost the Government not less than forty millions, anJ probably will end when the last Indian and runaway Negro dies a natur al death in the everglades. Why is it that the Indian tribes of the United States have become so generally ho...
