The event was held to announce the end of the petition drive to overturn the proposed beach-alcohol ban. The group turned in more than 45,000 signatures, halting the ban while the registrar verifies the signatures. If the signatures are valid, a vote could take place as soon as June, District 2 The registrar must confirm 30,209 valid signatures to send the ordinance back to City Council. If enough signatures are confirmed, the council must either rescind the ordinance or place it on a ballot for voters to decide later this year, Jenkins said. The total number of signatures collected was 45,490, which will temporarily suspend the ban while the County Registrar of Voters can verify the count.
