A gentleman who arrived on Monday last from Bexar, has "informed us," that the prisoners of Cordova's party who were recently captured near that city, were tritd at ,the District Court, before Judge Robinson and released. They were not captured by CoLKarnes and T3apL Man. shaca, as was reported, but by a few surveyors. A few citizens of Bexar met with a small party of Com manches a week or two since, on the head waters of the San Leon, and, after a slight skirmish, in which one Commanchc was killed, captured all their horses, and drove the Indians into tho adjoining woods. A Mex- ican was taken prisoner near Bexar by some surveyors a few dars aso. who stated that lie belonged to one of the settlements on the Rio Grande, and had recently fled from the Comtnanches who had captured him several months 'since. Dr. James HEStar, formerly President of the Board of Land Commissioners of NacogdocKes county, has been 'appointed Secretary of the treasury. On tho morning of the 14th inst a party of surveyors who were out surveying between Bexar and Seguin, hear ing the reports of fire arras near their camp, returned to ft, and found four of their companions weltering in their , v blood; one of them, a Mexican ofBexar, was still breath- ing, and on being-resusitated, stated "that his comrades had been attacked by a party of Mexicans and Indians, who were returnragTrora,Matamoras with arms and amunition for the hostile Indians.
