Now, with recovery well underway, production is picking up faster in Texas than in the rest of the country. At the recession low ... PAGE 4 THURSDAY. DECEMBER 4. 1*75 ARGUS Rescued From Sea Death MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA - Six months ago ARGUS was just another neglected sailing ship floating in an estuary of! the Lisbon coast Until two years ago sbe had been an ac- tive participant in the great fleet of ships that has been sailing for nearly 500 years in search of cod off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland In many ways ARGUS has been touched by fame and recognition denied her sister ships J&e is familiar to many from the pages and films of Nations'. Geographic and the books by Alain Villiers. But progress has been a steady destroyer of ships -- famous or not. Wooden bulls have given way to steel, square rigging to smaller, triangular sails, and finally to steam and diesel. In 1966 there were only nine sailing ships active in the Portugese fishing fleet. Now there are none. Fortunately, the 230 foot ARGUS will live and, perhaps, even prosper as she never has. Recent negotiations with the Portugese government have now...

One thine that cattlemen need to look at in analyzing their operations is a "cow month of feed" --a term that has a definite bearing on the income derived from cattle It refers to the total number of cows maintained in the berti annually divided by the number of calves weaned For example, if a producer has maintained 100 cows for the past year and weaned 90 calves, then 1200cows months of feed are divided by 90, re- sulting in 14 .2 cow months of feed per calf weaned As this figure increases, production efficiency per cow-calfwean- ed drops and this is money down the drain, points out Lindsey The number of calves actuallv w...
