CRICKET. [Newspaper Article] — Ballan Times — 16 April 1914

CRICKET. The triumphal inarch of the Moou ee Ponds criekoters over tho district tennis received a rude check at Green diile 011 Tuesday. It was .the last mutch of the series, and they fully expected to have an afternoon's bat ting practice, but the glorious uncer tainty of tho game was again exem plified. Going in first, the visitors were dismissed for a ridiculously small total—well under the century, .lor. Wholan was in great form with the ball, and the downfall of the city men wus in a large measure due to his tine bowling. The local men dis played no nervousness when their turn came to bat, and had no diffi culty in topping their opponents' total, having about 100 runs to spare when the last wicket fell. For the winners, Blaubauiii, who played a brilliant innings, topped the half century. Tho visitors were en ter taiued to diuner at Q'Shea's hotel prior to the mutch, and afternoon tea was served 011 the ground by the ladies. We were not provided with the score book, hence this b...

WIRELESS TELEPHONY. [Newspaper Article] — Ballan Times — 16 April 1914

WIRELESS TELEPHONY. "Experiments with a system ol .wireless telephony are being carried out in America. The results so far have been of a promising nature, conversation having been successful ly transmitted over several hundred .yards on earth and several hundrocJ feet on water. .The system used is an earth-con ducjjon one, and is, therefore, simi lar in principle to. though doubtless differing in detail from, many other wireless telephony systems which have been tried in various countries 'It cannot be said that the results which have ;is yet been attained by any of the experimenters are of .sufficiently striking character to justify the prediction of a great fu ture befon? this method of communi cation. Hut it is evident, that many inven tors are attacking the problem, and it is likely, therefore, that some thing of practical utility may be de veloped by their efforts.
