Not for Brisbane town alone Rings my ever changeful tone; " Voiceful ihany a far league hence," Is its brightening influence. He Wouldn't "Misthur." [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Figaro and Punch — 22 August 1885

He Wouldn't " Mfsthttr.w Old Duffem is the owner of a cattle-station on the Balonne river. He has risen from the ranks of toil, and become an officer in the Pastoral Army. Mrs. Duffem is a lady ol humble birth and doubtful . scholastic attainments, but she is imbued with a proper pride and has a solid notion of the respect due fo her in her present exalted " spear." Time was when >he did the washing for station-hands, and many is the booze old Duffem has enjoyed in the past at the expensie of those who were, in those days, co-laborers with him as working bushmen. But old Duffem was a saying old file, and his canny ways have now made him a boss over those with whom he was formerly mates. One particular old crony of his was a man known as Long Bill, whom he now employs on his cattle station. Long Bill has worked and sworn, and got drunk, and suffered recoveries with old Duffem, times out of number. He has always addressed him familiarly as "Bob," or " Old hoss," or some such enduri...
