MEDICAL. CATARRH OP THE STOMACH. When, in addition to pain or distress in the stomach with flatulence, eructations, acidity, constipation or diarrhoea, wo find the tongue is considerable, the trouble it usually catarrh in tho stomach. There are various grades of this diseaie. It may ba vary slight indeed in its nature, or so serious as to imperil lite. What is catarrh oi the stomach,? II is a condition in which tha mucous lining haa bocomo thickened, per vereed, and secretes mucous and morbid pro ducts instead ol clear, puregastrid secretion. The lining of the stomach beoomes ' coated, as it were, with the morbid produots ol fer mentation.' The secretions being in eiceta lor a long timo, become thick, tough and stringy ; and are highly acid and laden with thn nrma nt farm*nl*t.nn ' ' Moreover, as a rule, the livor and kid noys aro in an abnormal state, and burdened with an immense amount of morbid material. STANLEY JOTTINGS (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)   It is rumoured here that a court-martial to enquire into the conduct of a member of our Rifle Club is to be held here on Wednesday. Major Wallack, staff adjutant, Sergeant Major Rafferty, and Captain Chapman will constite the court. No particular with reference to the case are obtainable, and it is understood the enquiry is to be heldwit closed doors. The result will not be known until the report of the court marshall has been forwarded to the   Minister of Defence.       The chopping match for £10 aside, between A. King and H. Emmerton, came off on Saturday afternoon   at Joe Thompson,s Hotel, and caused a great deal of excitement, and the betting was very brisk   on both men.
