S...POLICE COUBT: - FIIDAY, AUGUST 15, ASSAULT. - Henry Dewing, George Rowe, and John Macarthur were chargedl with having commit* ted an aggravated assault upon William Hatton, constable, on the night of Wednesday last. It ap peared from the evidence, that, in the early part of the night, con. stable Hatton was stationed in front of the Commercial Hotel when the three prisoners came out of the house; they accosted him, and asked how long lhe had been in the country, he replied " about six weeks ;"one of them then said " Oh, a new chum-we'll have a lark with you.'' They then went away, and shortly afterwards he heard a disturbance of people shouting and 'cooeying;' he went in the direction of the noise, and met the prisoners, one. of whom exclaimed, " Here comes the ----, let's giveit him." One of them then wvent behind him, and held him by the leg, while the others struck him I repeatedly over the head, one of them being armed with a short thick stick like a piece of a broom handle....

WEDNESDAY, GTI AUGUST. Scab and Catarrh in.Sheep. Dr Nicholson said, that the notice which stood for this day in his name, was to move-" That'aSelect-Committee be appointed to enquire into and. re port upon the necessity of amending the law relating to scab in sheep." With the permission of the [louse, he would alter the motion to' " Scab and Catarrh in sheep." The subject was one of par ticnlar importance to the colony at large;-scab and catarrh being two most important evils, which it was de sirable to prevent as far as could be done. The honorable member for Murray had proposed last session to re. model the whole law relating to this subject L but owing to the lateness of the period at which he brought forward his motion, it was withdrawn, and the old law was re-enacted, and would cone tinue in operation until 1846.
