GENERAL, NEWS. The. protracted investigation ilto the mmoralities alleged to have been practised on blard the emigrant shiip; Palm Tree, was :oncluded on Saturday last when the doctor of the ship was fined £gi., sith £3 costs, and ordered to undergo ten dhAys' imprisonment' n Melbourne gaol;' the. third offcej. was ined the same amount, with £.3 costs, and, sentenced ta seven days' imprisonmnnt and he first and second officers were [fined £9 each', ordered to pay 40s. costs, and, to go'to gaol for one hour. The magistrates found that tie defendants had been: guilty of familiarity, but eot of immuo'ality, with some f' the passengers, and the decision of the bench, therefore, leaves no; stain ofci iminality on any of the young women concerned in the case.
