After onsultingto t:;ether for some time, they had anl interview with Mr. Service, who li-te.ne, patiently to the arguments, .nd then advised that MJr. Bent's ,lr-i-ion, should stand till after the .ectious. and that then a poll of the r:!tepa.ers should be taken about rid?ings. CORRESPONDENCE. THE SUBDIVISION OF THE SHIRE. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 10 June 1880

CORRESPONDENCE. THE SUBDIVISION OF THE SHIRE. TO THE EDITOR OF TIIE GUARDIA'. SSmn,-I got hold of a printed paper to day professing to be a copy of "counsel's opinion".. obthined by' the proprietors: of your Drouin contemporary as to thelegality of. the lite subdivision of the shire into rid ings, together with some other extracts and reprints. Instead of these latter, it would have been more satisfactory if a copy of the aose sent to the counsel for his opinion had also been printed, so that the public might have had an opportunityof knowing, whe ther the facts had been properly and, fairly laid before him. Nobody.douts., the cor rectness of the opinion as far as it goes (I presume the whole opinion is printed), but there must have been something wrong.in the instructions, as the petition upon which the order is based was most certainly pub lished in your columns, and, I think, in those of your contemporary-in fact, the extract following the opinion distinctly says so. And again, w...

COCKSFOOT GRASS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 10 June 1880

COCKSFOOT GRASS. TO TInl EDITOR OTi TniE .oSUARDIAI.' =. Sza,-I have waited to see if any one would afford Mr. Abraham Lincolne the in. formation he sought for a few weeks back through the medium of your paper, respect ing the dying out of English grasses. And I must express my surprise that out of the number of gentlemen settled in this district who are competent to give an opinion, not one lhas come forward to dosoe, but are con tent-to let the matter go by default. As the sowing down of English grasses is our chief industry, it is of the most vital importance that anything bearing on the subject should receive the fullest considera tion, and I am of opinion tlht nothing will be lost in endeavoring to afford Mr. Lin colne the information he seeks. In passing I beg to say that now that we have a local paper which is worthy of the name, I am sure that the editor would be only too glad to open his columns for the admission of matter.dealing with so important a subject. And if the set...

Mr. John Coranll says the subject shoatll be fully ventilated. I think ao too; bat Lawns not, a s,,nguine as to the result. In the .tht place, this is one of the most di3icult parts of the colony for the construction of tntn ways. Onaccount of the hilly nature of the district the railway engineers hnad greadt ili culty in getting the present track for the railway, and this seetion ,cost far mare than any other in the colony owing to this. The directions in which it is propose i to con stunct trallways m ove r far rougher ? cun try, and there will be some Sery leavy cut tings, which will have to be made, a, there is not ,a brake yet invented thiat will stop the trucks in going down soime of the hills, esome of them being about 1 in 10i; it w.ill also take a very powerful tran to haul thtems up. The Warragul Guardian. THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 1880. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 17 June 1880

THURSDAY. JUNE 17, 1SSO. The Warragul Quadrille Assembly's ball, announced in our last issue -for the 25th June, has been postponed to 23rd Ju.Tnly. The meeting at Traralgon on Tuesday evening was not a success as a demonstra tion in favor of the Service Reform Bill, as the voting for a motion in favor of the Bill and for an amendment against it was so close that both sides claimed a victory. On Tuesday next, as will be seen by an advertisement in auother column, meetings at which Messrs.
