SINGING AND WORK. [Newspaper Article] — Narracan Shire Advocate — 29 April 1914

SINGING AND WORK. Singing while doing your housework will help you through many an un pleasant task. It is the best of tonics for the spirit and the body too. The lungs are filled and the blood revived and freshened by the vocal exercises. • Working around the house in very soiled, untidy garments will tire one twice as quickly as taking your tasks in a methodical manner. Housework can be utter drudgery or it can be a pleasurable occupation; the difference is found in the worker's viewpoint. When washing do not stoop over the sink; this tires the shoulders; When sweeping, have every window open. You will not take cold; your esercise will keep you warm and safe from chills. If you can spare the time, have a little' nap every afternoon Some women do their housework as it they were carrying the weight of a aation upon their shoulders. Such will grow old while they are still young.

DAIRYING. INDIVIDUALITY IN THE DAIRY HERD. [Newspaper Article] — Narracan Shire Advocate — 29 April 1914

& A J a ¥ 1 M G. INDIVIDUALITY IN THE DAIRY HERD. Tlie character of any herd of dairy cows depends exactly upon tlie quality of every cow kept for dairy purposes. The principal reason why dairying at present does not pay better than it Joes is because many poor cows do not pay for their board, and are a con tinual loss to. their owners every year " they are kept. In two-thirds of the dairies of the country there are more than one-third of the cows that arc eating up the profits that the other cows make. It is a sad commentary upon the wisdom of many dairy farmers of this coun try to say, il: some thief would walk into their yards and steal one-third of their cattle (the poorest ones) and drive them oS, two-thirds of the dairy men should thank them for doing it. Facts and actual statistics will sub stantiate this statement. The remain ing cows would bring in a net profit far above the net profits which our dairies now yield. The first question in the work of im proving the st...

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME. ♦ —— Request for Boat Not Acceded To. When the late survey party started on its expedition along the Latrobe river, from Moe to Sale, a flat-bottomed boat -was left behind, and the same was to be returned to Melbourne. The idea suggested itself to Mr Wuttrich that if the punt was allowed to remain here it would prove serviceable to 'settlers in times of flood, and he agreed to house it and take all responsibility for its being available to his neighbours whenever required. Mr G. Btickleton wrote'to Mi Barnes anent the proposal, and the following reply is to hand :— Department of Public Works, Melbourne, 21st April, 1914. HOW TO TALK. [Newspaper Article] — Narracan Shire Advocate — 29 April 1914

HOW TO TALK. Keep clear of personalities in' conversation. Talk of things, ob jects, thoughts. The smallest minds occupy themselves with persons. Do not needlessly report ill of others. As far as possible, dwell on the good side of human beings. . . There is evil enough in man, God knows. But it is not the mission of every young man and woman to de tail and report it all. Keep the at mosphere as pure as possible, and fragrant with gentleness and char ity.

LITTLE BRAIN WAVES. [Newspaper Article] — Narracan Shire Advocate — 29 April 1914

LITTLE BRAIN WAVES. I Marriage is never a failure—tout the contracting parties frequently are. All men are iborne free and equal, but most of them spoil it Iby getting married. If it is anything lie has paid to hear the average man Relieves it is true. A woman never has much use for a man who she can't teach to be jeal ous. "Widow's weeds" rarely inter fere with the growth of a future crop of orange iblossoms. If a man can't persuade some wo man to lead him. into temptation lie gets in of his own accord. I • It's surprising how many friends you have when .you don't need them. * There is no crime on earth a -woman 'wont' forgive a man if he tells her I that her ibeauty drove him to it. Sometimes our paths are strewn | with red rose leaves, sometimes with blue summonses. Women want everything that man lias, except •moustaches and hard heads. Every dimple in a pretty girl's lace registers a dent in a man's heart. Diplomacy is, in the main, the art of backing down with dignity after you...
