XMAS MAILS The Postal Department expects very heavy postings this Xmas and have made arrangements to deal promptly with them. It is pointed out that the public can render invaluable assistance by posting gifts and greeting cards early and packing them securely. Letters, cards and parcels should be posted by not later than 17th December to ensure 'delivery in time. POSTING HINTS Be sure to address correctly-errors mean delay. Write the sender's name and address on your letter or parcel. If Xmas cards are seated in the en- velope they must be paid for at tetter rates. Use strong wrappings and envelopes -poor quality won't carry. Pack fragile articles securely in strong outer containers. Bottles ot liquid should be packed in some- absorbent fflaterial such as cot- ton wool or sawdust. Sharp or pointed articles should be suitably padded. Tie tightly with strong string. R SI P C A- Prosecutes To a charge of neglecting to exercise J or cause to be exercised, a dog which was habitually chained up, Betty Edith Stevens of Skipton Road Prestons, plead- ed not guilty at Liverpool Police Court last Thursday. The prosecution was launched by the R.S.P.C.A. and the Society's Inspector Braddock gave evidence that on Thurs- day, 20th October, he visited Mrs. Stevens and saw a black and white dog chained to a running wire about nine feet long. The ground around the ken- nel indicated that it had been chained there some time. The dog appeared gone in the hind quarters. When asked how long she had had the dog Mrs. Stevens said since it was a pup - about six months.
