CURRENT JOTTINGS [Newspaper Article] — South Coast Times and Wollongong Argus — 19 February 1915

CURRENT JOTTINGS 'Australia, said the Attorney'Gene ral the other day in. reference to the Wheat Acquisition, has not pro duced enough wheat to supply itself till next crop. The advice was given when it be came apparent that owing to the drought there was going to be a partial crop failure to sow maize. which could be used to make up the shortage, both in flour and animal feed, of wheat. As a business propo sition the advice was undoubtedly good, seeing maize prices. It, how ever, does not seem to have ? taken hold. No extension in the (maize area is reported. There is another'chance for the Coastal districts, which is to put in potatoes, this being the time for a winter crop. The Germans are mating much use of the potatoi tor mixing with flour, in fact, according to report^, hour in Germany gets every day -more potato and lies wheat, and it looks as things are going that the Germans will be brought down to potatoes, and small ones at that. Those or our lads In khaki who must have l...
