From an extended series of observa Stions made at the Melbourne Observatory, it appears that, on the average, the hottest period is fromn the 21st to the25th of January, and the coldest from the20th to the 24th of July.' Nicholls have 'now very nearly completed their contract of supplying the Sunbury Lunatic Asylum with wood. They have only a. few hundred tons more to supply. Clayton led the Smaubury twenty, while Carrol captained the Romsey boys. Mr Clark-on made a very impartial central umpire. NEWS AND NOTES. A. ~'ery painful accident occurred to a little boy of Sunbury name'i John McCulloch on Tuesday. It appears that the young chap attends the Bolinda South State School and also drives the schoolmistress, Mrs Johnston, out there. On this occasion he was within. the precincts of the school men tioned. -along with other boys, and endeavoring to ignite some owder, of which, by some means, he became possessed. The combustible was arranged on the ground in a little heap and McCulloch placed a lighted piece of brown paper to it. As the powder did not catch quickly he bent over to ascertain the cause of delay. The explosion took place simultaneously and he received the full force of it in the face. The sufferer was conveyed immediately to Sunbury where the injuries were examined and attended to by Dr Johnston, who subsequently recommended his removal to the Mel bourne Hospital, which course has been adopted.
