CHAPTER II. The Tide of Fortune. I. [Newspaper Article] — Birchip Advertiser and Watchem Sentinel — 18 March 1914

CHAPTER II. The Tide of Fortune. I. The precise reasons which kept their friend Hugh Donald from the ■breakfast table were discussed to the accompaniment of deep breathing and unlimited marmalade by these sapi ent men of affairs, Jack Bowles and Freddy Bywater. Mat Michel, deep in the morning paper, which dealt with the meaner things of life, added littl to the argument though he heard much of it. OPPOSING ' FORCES' " Why don't they use Lu* ?" A little boy said, As he tried to draw His shirt o'er his head. Whilst I grow bigger, My shirt is shrinking, And the opposing forces, I am much thinking Will end in disaster To that shrinking shirt. I can't shrink to suit A shirt shrunken short I must have room to grow— .While my shirt say#, no. The shirt must suffer, If it still acts so. But the shirt needn't shrink. And I may still grow— For Lux is made to wash Woollens, white as snow Without any shrinking, Soft as eiderdown. Lux is sold in packets, Everywhere in town. Twopence is the price, And the price is low, If Lux'll give me room, In my shirt to grow. . Why do they do it ? If they'd only think To wash wool with Lux, Woollens will not shrink. Won't Lsvor Brothoro Liraltod, o Gydnoy.

Come qoSoily J and let me tell you a few things about tea. When you are cold it warms you, and when you are hot it cools you; if you are thirsty it quenches your thirst, and if you are not thirsty, well, then it's a nice enough drink to take * every time you get a chance. I'm satisfied of one thing, if people didn't drink anything stronger than Robur tea, we wouldn't have to run so many people in. My advice to you is, drink tea—Robur No. I Grade tea— get it fresli and drink it v always, and if you never \Y\ take any thing else you'll never come to any; harm.
