NEW _DORfTJITORY OPENED . A HANDSOME CDIIICE , _IMllAlLS ENGLISH MODELS . It was a far different sight that giectcd the student as he entered the campus on his return fiom the holiday vacation , than when heieturned in the fall—instead of a confused mass of material scattered about , a yawning excavation in the earth along the east side of the campus , they now beheld a beautiful Dormitory , a stately edefice , standing majestically before them . Another monument of the liberality of the friends of Gettysburg and a sure testimony of the spirit and progress of the times This new dormitory is the first of a series of similar ones expected to be erected in the near future which , joined to this one , will extend nortli along the east side of the campus . The style of architecture is English , modeled after the dormitory system of Oxford . The material is brick . The building is three stories high and is finished in brownstone . It harmonizes beautifully with Recitation Hall and Biua Ch...

Pfof . Cha * . A . Young will _beetuve ot Gettysburg . When one sees the name of Prof . Chas . A . Young , of Princeton University , in the list of entertainments of any course it is unnecessary to ask his subject to determine if it will pay to hear him . Every cubic inch of the Sun when described by him , seems to be put into _Ilis audience , warming them with its intense heat with admiration for the Lecturer , and making them radiant with its light ; a warmth and radiance that do not die with the close of the lecture but stay with one for many a day . One may go to hear Professor Young wondering why he is going , but he will come away wondering what he would have done if he had missed the opportunity of hearing him . Such is the testimony of one who knows Prof . Young and the same is the testimony everywhere of his many students and friends . Why should not one know all about the Sun—the sustaining source of all animal and vegetable life ? And who can tell us better of these wonde...

THE PARK _SISTERS . The opening concert of the Y . M , C . A . Lecture Course for the season of 98 , was given by the Park Sisters in Brua Chapel , on Saturday evening , Jan . 8 th . The Sisters were greeted with a crowded house and they well deserved the same . The program rendered was without doubt the finest of the kind ever given in the city—the Sisters are artists who are lovers of their art . The program was made up of cornet quartettes , trios , solos , mandolin solos , selections by mandolins , zithei and guitar , etc . The very hearty , and well merited applause given , demonstrates clearly that a Gettysburg audience is not lacking in appreciation of a high class entertainment . So frequent were the encores that the young ladies almost doubled the length of the program . The cornet solos of Miss Anna Park have never been surpassed il equaled in this place . Her tones are remarkably pure and sweet , in short she gave an excellent exemplification of the capabilities of the co...

_ATHLETIC NEWS . Active measures are being instituted that we may be represented by a good track team this year . The men were called out by Manager Gra / . icr for light work in the gymnasium on Monday evening . We would urge that a large number of men try for the team as often a man develops abilities winch weie unknown to him . We are sure that all will be given a fair trial and encouragement . We trust that a more general interest will be taken in this branch of spoit , which is as yet rather in its infancy at our institution . We made a good showing last year and feel sure that out boys will do at least equally well as List season if not better . At the Inter-collegiate Meet in Philadelphia last spring we took second place in one lace , defeating Dickinson and K and M ., State College winning Although a man may not make the team yet the benefit derived from the tiaining will more than rcyay him for his exettions . We are sure that the following taken from the Yale Nnvs will be ...
