- »^« — SYCAMOBK FABSEB' CLUB . [Newspaper Article] — True Republican — 22 January 1870

- »^« — SYCAMOBK FABSEB CLUB . Meeting ; or Jan . j 5 ih . SUBJECT . —The Comparative Profits of the Spanish Mcriuo Sheep , and the Cotswold , Leicester and South Down . Mr , S . C . Hale said : A comparatively small amount of long wool is produced in this country . Our manufacturers are obliged to depend upon foreign countries for most of their supply , while the demand for goods made from this class of wools , has very largely increased . Every dry goods establishment gives amide proof of this increasing change iu the variety of fabrics in constant demand , made from wools of this discriplion . I think the demand for this class of wool offers a greater inducement to the farmer to enter into the raising of mutton and long wool , than any other branch of farming in this vieiuity . — The manufacturer has great inducements for buying this kind of wool iu preference to the Merino , notwithstanding their price , for they contain so little oil or yolk , that there is but a small per cent...

Keconstruction in Georgia . LETTKll FHOM GEN . FAUNSWORTH . Most of our tenders are no doubt familiar with the troubles which have 00-enrred-iu the reconstruction of Georgia . They remember the expulsion of the colored members from the Legislature , the fearful massacres of Union men which followed , and all those demonstrations 01 the devilish spirit of secession , that led Congress to conclude that unless the state was to be abandoned to the tender mercies of those who had carried it out of the Union and led it to tho brink of ruin , no other course could be adopted than to compel obedience to law and respect for the-rights of its loyalists . Consequently among the most important of the proceedings of Congress before the recess , was the p issage of nu act to promote reconstruction in Georgia . It rucogLized tho present Governor of that State , and the Legislature elected under Gen . Mead s proclamation of June 25 , 1863 . It ignored the action of that Legislature subsequent to th...

A MISERS LIFE AND DEATH . The Mysterious Hermit of King Street Dead—Thomas Klncrrove , the Aged Miser—Ilia Strange Life—How He Saved Money—Anecdotes , Ac . From the N . T . Bun , 12 th . On the south side of King street , a few doors west of Hudson street , are several old wooden houses , which have stood there for the past forty years , alone in their dinginess and dirtiness . They are all occupied by persons in the humbler walks . The first of these houses , No . 102 , is old fashioned . It has a dormitory on the top floor . The wood is stained and blackened with age ; the venerable green window blinds have never been seen open by the neighbors . No one was ever known to visit the hoase . Now and then , an old woman would walk out of the front door , _ and soon return , bearing with her provisions . Many persons have endeavored to get within this-mysterious dwelling and ramble over it . But no one was ever thus gratified until within a few days . This house was the home for forty ...

The material is a heavy cloth of a dark brown shade , with a full , short skirt made plain , the lower edge trimmed with a band of sealskin five inches wide . With this , Knickerbockers of the same matrial are worn , the band hidden by very high boots that have a band of fur upon the tops .
