The immortal truth always comes out on top. Senate Hill 155, while possibly introduced by parties who don't care a rap for the Hilo-Kohala railroad, was not the work of Hilo enemies or alleged enemies of that project. " It was conceived by the Kona-Kau promoters who have their own axe to grind and who incidentally arc not in an amiable frame of mind toward the Hilo-Kohala road, because their construc tion proposal was not accepted. He that as,it may, the source of the bill is unimportant. It has many points of merit and when finally amended as it probably will be, will be objectionable to nobody but the Hilo Herald, which has devel oped a very grave malady of the brain upon the subject. The Onhu and Hilo Railroad representatives, and the promoters of the Hilo-Kohala road have made effective rep resentations resul...

A HORRIBLE SPECTACLE. Why should Honolulu wish to be a separate and independent self supporting municipality when she has a death grip on the most mon umental graft, known to Ameri can history? For Honolulu water, for Honolulu wharves and for the purpose of starting the bloomin County of Oahu on the high road, this legislature proposes to set aside over one million dollars. The County of East Hawaii, in these three particulars will have a boost of $55,000. The people of this county could well afford to say to Honolulu that they can get along without this boost if the County of Oahu will be reasonable and if Ho nolulu will pay her own house-hold expenses. The undying greed of the city of Honolulu is equalled only by the lamblike submission of the outside districts. After an era of twenty years of milking b...
