THE NOBLE FARMER. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 11 February 1860

THE NOBLE FARMER. MRS. L. H. SIGOURNEY. "Agriculture is the most healthy, the most useful, the most noble employment of man." [George Washington. What hero on the battle strife, With palms of victory crowned, Fame's clarion music in his car, From earth's remotest bound — What ruler o'er a nation's love, In majesty sublime, The first, the greatest jn the realm, A king in Freedom's clime, Returns to rural haunts to watch His ripening wheat fields wave, A blessed gladness in his heart? Who, mid his acres broad and green, Where plowshares break the sod, Prefers in sylvan toils to walk With nature and with God? There was but one—who thus retired From conquests, power and pride, From which ambition has so oft In madness striven and died. There was but one. Dost ask his name? 'Neath fair Virginia's sky, Go find Mount Vernon's sepulchre, And heed its answering sigh. Liquid Qiartz.—A year or so since, Dr. Benjamin Hardinge announced that he had discovered a method of reducing quartz to a liq...

FABQTJAH'S MEDICATED CALIFfIRKIA ffl AID BHAIY! A delirious Tonic Bitter: Juice of the Glmpe, medicated With Juniper, Rhubarb, and Peruvian Bark, for Invalids. "Geod Wine needs no bush," TJTJT in this age of quackery and humbug, it is I ) necctiary to at least state the virtues or qualities of even a well known article, and certainly flic California Grape could lay claim to this title. 1 believe, indeed, 1 know from experience, that its juice produces a purer, less hurtful, and more exhilarating and healthful beverage than nine-tenths of the stuff imported and imitated in the United States. If this can be said of the wine usually sold, what cannot be said of Brandies? Pah ! the very thought is significant of poison. Hut to the purpose. Dr. Jas. The Truth doth never die. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 18 February 1860

The Truth doth never die. Though Kingdoms, States and Empires fall, And dynasties decay: Though cities crumble into dust, And nations die away; Though gorgeous towers and palaces In heaps of ruin lie, Which once were proudest of the proud, The truth doth never die ! We'll mourn not o'er the silent past; Its glories arc not fled, Although its men of high renown Be numbered with the dead. AVe'll grieve not o'er what earth has lost, It cannot claim a sigh; For the wrong alone hath perished, The Truth doth never die! All of the past is living still — All that is good and true; The rest hath perished, and it did Deserve to perish, too! The world rolls over round and round, And time rolls ever by; And the wrong is ever rooted up, But the truth doth never die! Letter from" Senator (.win. Below is a letter from Senator Gwin, in response to an invitation to attend the celebration of the anniversary of the battle of New Orleans, held at Tammany Hall Jan. Bth, 18(50. My Dear Sir:—Most gladly w...
