NO. 20 THREE SECTIONS. 24 PAGES Opponent Markert Loses Job With County THURSDAY, MAY 18. 1978 Mogonye Requests Precinct 4 Vote Recount ELGIN — Incumbent Precinct 4 Commissioner Emil Mogonye has requested a recount of the votes in the May 6 primary election in which he failed from receiving the nomi- nation by only two votes. At the same time, it appears that Marvin Markert, runnerup in the May 6 primary and Mogonye's opponent on the June 3 runoff ballot, has lost his job with the county. Regarding the recount request, Bastrop County Democratic Party Chairman Allen McMurrey told the Times last week that a committee to make the recount would be ap- pointed Wednesday, May 17. The participants received donations for each mile they walked through Bastrop State Park. -Times Photo AUSTIN — Based on tne May report sent out by State Comptrol- ler Bob Bullock's office, Bastrop continues to lead the county in bus- iness. but Smithville is experienc- ing the biggest increase. The report gives the amount of money rebated to the cities from the one percent city sales tax. Lipscomb, president of Caldwell County Farm Bureau, announces the appointment of Alex- ander's Feed, Seed and Fertilizer as a Safemark Tire and Battery dealer. A complete line of car, truck and tractor tires as well as batteries will be available to members. Alexander's Feed, Seed and Fertilizer is owned by DeWitt and Laverne Alexander. The Alexanders are lifelong residents of Bastrop County and 20-vear vet- erans in the feed busin- ess, with the last 12 at their present location at 922 Main Sl. Bastrop.
