LECTURE, CONCERT, AND PRE- SENTATION. On Thursday, the 26th April, a   meeting of the Scots' Church congr- gation, Heidelberg, was held for very agreable and interesting objects. At 6 p.m. the members of the congregation and their families met on the invitation of the Rev. Duncan Fraser and Mrs. Fraser to tea. Thereafter an address on the importance of praise in the church services was delivered by the minister, who, on behalf of the worshippers and of himself, thanked Miss Duncan, of Bulleen, for her very kind and accept- able services as organiste in the church. The reverend gentleman then asked Miss Duncan's acceptance of an elegant silver tea and coffee service subscribed for, very readily and liberally, by the people of the church and a few other friends. BULLEEN SHIRE COUNCIL. Monday, 31st April.   Present :—Messrs. Laidlaw (Presi- dent), Gardner, Williamson, Hutchin- son, Dowd, Firth, Petty, and Smedley. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr. Keys, M.LA., stating that the sum of £250 had been granted for works on the main roads for the Templestowe and Warrandyte ridings and £100 for the Doncaster riding, the Council to spend £225, and that the works must be completed by the 30th June, and vouchers for the amounts forwarded, or the subsidy would be lost. A second letter from Mr. Keys, ask- ing that delegates from the Council should meet him as early as possible (with particulars of work required) for application of special grant for the en- suing year. A long conversation ensued on this   subject when it was eventually decided that Messrs. Laidlaw, Dowd, and Smedley be a deputation to wait on Mr. Keys on the 9th inst.; and that the Secretary write to Mr. Camero...

TWO FATALl RAfLWAY ,ACCIDENTS. Two fatal railway acyidlents occurred. last Wedneslay, one at asid the other near to the South Yarra railway station. The first accident occurred shortly after one o'clock, and seems to have been en. tirely the fault of the unfortunate victim. The 12.40 p.m. down triin on the Brighton line had just left the South Yarra platform, and was passing under the second bridge Ieyond, when a laborei' named Hobert Drake, employed on thei lide, suddenly ran in front of the engine, getting on to the rails about 10 -pas - ahead. The only note of warning it was possible to give, viea, a wild shout, was given by the enginedriver, but the man was struck down before he had time to retrace his steps, or alter his position in any way.
