FEDERAL ELECTIONS. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 16 December 1949

iFEDERAIL ELECTIONS. The member of the House of Rep. resentatives for Indi during the next three years seems almost certain to be Mr. W. D. Bostock, Liberal candi, date. Although Mr. C. E. Edmondson (Labor) has been at the head of the three-cornered poll since the early fig. ures were announced, the Country Party candidate, Mr. C. H. T. PROPOSED MEMORIAL HALL. DISAPPOINTING MEETING. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 16 December 1949

PROPOSEI) MEIOIt[AL HALL. DISAPPOINTING MIEETING. The sponsors of the meeting held at Alexandra on Mlonday night, to dis cuss the proposal to erect a memo rial hall to commemorate the fallen of the second world war, if not of both, must have been keenly disap" pointed at the outcome. The attend ance was so poor that it was just pos. sible to take action in the direction of endeavoring to stir up public interest in the district, but it was not possible to take any definite step towards actually launching the project. The upshot of the meeting was that a sub-committee was appointed, with the idea of arousing much wider in terest throughout the district, and a further meeting is to be held in Janu. ary or February. It seems a pity that in such a short space of time-the war has been end., ed only four years-that deeds of valor and sacrifices on a grand scale should have so far receded from the public mind as to leave an almost bar. ren result from a public meeting. That, we feel sure, i...
