FIGHTING MEMBERS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL. [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 4 June 1886

FIGHTING MEMBERB. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL. SIR,-I must confess that I am not sorry to give my colleague the opportunity of once more thanking the electors of the Ovens for the honor, &0., they conferred on him by returning him as one of their representatives, but when he condsecends to apologise for my shortcomings then I object-I can do that for myself whenever the occasion may arise. With him, I agree the interests of the constituency must be paramount, and upon that prin ciple I have consistently acted since my election, and mean to act so long as I may represent the district. I never have, so far as I ams aware, allowed personal feeling to interfere with the discharge of my duty to Ily constituente, and trust 1 never will. 1 always am, and over was, most anxious to act with my colleague in any public mceting, all Iask from himboing to give me my fair share of credit for whatever is done for the district by our comhbined action. ORIGINAL POETRY. "GUNDOWRING." [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 4 June 1886

ORIGINAL POETRY.         "GUNDOWRING."   DEDICATED TO Mr N. P. NEWNAN).   Dear Sir, - Your information Has quite paralysed the station;     For the family upon it are all dressd now in black, As the death of poor Gundowring,   Great grief around is showering. The clouds, they, too, are lowering, and will weep within a crack. Your account is most pathetic   No doubt a good emetic- Will be got from either Woodland, yourself, or Jemmy Bowring. "Sie tranist" all the beer You'd swallowed for the year. Mal-de-mer it did appear, round the grave of poor Gundowring. No more shall the poor cow hear the stockwhips and the row   Of the horses, as they gallop fast, and as they gallop far. For she died near Larry's dwelling, Where her carcase now is smelling, Whilst Larry, he is telling of her tricks around his bar. I'm obliged to the gravedigger May his f...

TALLANGATTA JOTTINGS [Newspaper Article] — Wodonga and Towong Sentinel — 4 June 1886

TALLANGATTA JOTTINGS. (BY KANT.)   Great disappointment was felt on Mon day morning, when a telegram was re ceived announcing Blllson's retirement   from the Benambra contest, and the supporters of that gentleman feel the reverse of pleased with Mr Billson's faintheartodness. Mr Wright addressed a large meeting on Tuesday night, and was remarkably well received. The Tallangattca minstrels give a per formance at Granya on Saturday evening, after which they purpose visiting Be thanga and Wodonga. Mr Carkeek retired from his hostelry on Monday night, when a great many friends rolled up for a parting glass. Apropos of Mr Carkeek, as instancing the respect in which he is held, I heard a gentleman remark the other day, when informed that an insult had been ten dered to Mr Carkeek, " Well, I should consider that in insulting Carkeek he insulted Tallangatta." Our footballers play Albury on the   12th instant, and I trust that they will givo'si godd acc...
