.Wednesday's Gale— Roof blown off Halfnights. ' Last Wednesday was ono of tho most un: pleait- days experienced for a considerable time past.. All.' the morning heavy squalls ^'prevailed, sweeping clouds' of dust and sand along the thoroughfares. About 12 noon tiie gale was at* its height, and during one of the heaviest , gusts nearly one half of the roof of Mr. W. Halfnights' new furniture warehouse was blown off, sheets of iron with battens and quartering attached were carried on to the roofs of the adjoining premises and as far. as ? On Wednesday last, the festival day of St. Francis Xavier, His Grace, Dr. MOrari, Arch bishop of Sydney, administered the sacrament of confirmation to about 200 persons in tlic above church. : ;The girls, numbering slightly under 100, were dressed in' white, with blue sashes: and wearing round 'the :neck : a mi ribbon (to which was suspended a medal com mcmomtive of the event), and on the head a wreath and veil.
