State Bakehouses. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 11 October 1912

State -Bakehou&es. The Government, it is stated, will shortly establish Stale bakehouses for tlie supply of bread to Government institu tions. At the present time the prisons.; asylums, charitable and other institutions are supplied with bread on contract. Mr. Hall, the Minister for Justice, has been making inquiries into the cost of this service, and his conclusions and re commendations will, in the course of a few days, be dealt with by Cabinet. It is understood, however, that the figures which Mr. Hall has had prepared show conclusively that the supply of bread for. these Government departments could be obtained more cheaply by the establish^ ment of State bakehouses than uuder the1, present contract system. It is improba ble that any proposal for the establish meut of State bakeries will be submitted to Parliament, for should the Cabinet adopt the scheme, as there is little doubt it will, the venture will be carried out as i an administrative act.

It was ascertained that there had been an accident, aud that the coach driv&'- was some distance back along the road. The cause of the accident appears to have^besn the breaking of a throatstrap, to repiir which the driver of the coach wasgetting down when the hoises bolted, throwing Reichert uuder the wheels of the coacli. War Declared. [Newspaper Article] — Raymond Terrace Examiner and Lower Hunter and Port Stephens Advertiser — 11 October 1912

War Declared. War iu the Balkans has begun in earnest. Montenegro was the first State to make an official declaration of hostilities, and her troops have crossed the frontier. The Servians apparently did not con cern themselves with formalities, but gave battle to the Turks right along the frontier ot the kingdom. At latest ac counts fighting was proceeding, and the Turkish forces were prevailing. The Highlanders of Northern Albania engaged the Turks in fierce conflict near the Montenegrin frontier, less than 20 miles from the capital, Cettinje. The Malissori tribesmen were tbe first to at tack, aud they are still holding Ihe enemy in check. The Servians are ill-equipped for the struggle. The Iroops are camped iu the open, without tents or blankets, and are very short, of clothing. Parliament lias j voted au extra credit to Uie Government j of nearly two million sterling. Peace negotiations are proceeding, and it is announced that Britain has agreed lo 'collective' instead of ' conc...
